social, humanitarian, and cultural committee (sochum)

Our Mission

The Third Committee of the General Assembly, known as the Social, Cultural, and Humanitarian Committee (SOCHUM) discusses questions relating to the advancement of women, the protection of children, indigenous issues, the treatment of refugees, the promotion of fundamental freedoms through the elimination of racism and racial discrimination, and the right to self- determination.  The Committee also addresses important social development questions such as issues related to youth, family, ageing, persons with disabilities, crime prevention, criminal justice, and international drug control.

2025 Sochum Chairs

Jack Adkins, Chair

Hey Y'all! My name is Jack Adkins and I am Houston, TX! I'm a freshman who is currntly planning to major in buisness and economics. In my free time, I enjoy competing in mock trial, cooking food, and fixing random things I find. I have a crippling caffeine addiction, specifically for white Monsters. I am looking forward to all of the lively debate that we are going to have, and how you all choose to adress the pressing issues our committee is working to solve! I can't wait to meet all of you!
